Dr Nooh Alshyab, Ass. Prof. of Economics at Yarmouk University, member of the Steering Committee of EMNES and of the Expert Panel of EMEA, participated to the MENA-OECD Working Group on Investment and Trade, held at the Dead Sea on 27-28 November 2018.
The event opened with remarks from H.E. Mr. Muhannad Shehadeh, Minister of State for Investment Affairs, Jordan, Co-chair of the Working Group on Trade and Investment, Mr. Koichi Ai, Minister, Deputy Permanent Representative, Delegation of Japan to the OECD, Co-chair of the Working Group on Trade and Investment, Mr. Karim Dahou, Senior Counsellor, Global Relations Secretariat, OECD, and H.E. Mr. Zied Ladhari, Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation, Tunisia, Co-chair of the MENA-OECD Competitiveness Programme.
The meeting focused on the following:

- The impact of trade and investment on the MENA region in a challenging world economy and ways countries and societies can enhance benefits from trade and investment.
- MENA countries’ integration into Global Value Chains (GVCs) and the role of local linkages to support economic and social development, building on OECD global work and statistical tools.
- Ways to promote inclusive trade and investment policies that create opportunities for all the segments of the population, including women, workers and refugees.
- Key challenges and processes for successful implementation of investment reforms
