It is with profound sadness that we have to share the news that Dr. Ahmed Badawi, EMNES researcher and EMEA expert panel member, has passed away on 18 March 2020, after a prolonged illness.
Dr. Badawi had received his PhD in Political Science from Humboldt University, and he was a senior researcher at the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Politics, Free University of Berlin. His research interests included state theory and the dynamics of state failure in the Arab world, power relations, institutional change and distributional conflict and the political economy of development beyond the Washington and the post-Washington consensus.
A gifted researcher and an inspiring team leader, Dr. Badawi was the Scientific Coordinator of the Research Area on institutions, institutional reforms, economic development and social justice, at the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies.
On behalf of all the members and affiliates of EMNES and EMEA, the Executive board of EMEA would like to express its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Badawi’ family, friends and colleagues. His death is a great loss for all of us.
