The Founder and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, as Chair of the Banking Stakeholder Group – BSG of the European Banking Authority – EBA participated at the first roundtable meeting with the European financial sector on COVID-19 relief measures. The meeting took place online on 28 May 2020.
The roundtable was launched by the European Commission, with the participation of the financial sector, consumer and business representatives, and aimed to explore how it can develop best practices to support EU citizens and businesses amidst and post COVID-19.
The meeting marked the beginning of a dialogue with the European financial sector to explore what further practical relief measures can be put in place to alleviate the impact of the coronavirus crisis. The main goal of these discussions is to explore how industry (banking, insurance and non-bank lending associations) can support citizens and businesses throughout the pandemic. This response must be coordinated in order to avoid national fragmentation and to ensure the level playing field in the European Union.
