Dr. Cynthia Echave, Project Coordinator and Senior Researcher at EMEA, gave a talk entitled “Ecosystem Transition Unit: Initiative Flagship Cases Results”, as part of the EU Sustainable Energy Week’s programme of Energy Talks, on 26 October 2021. The session presented the Interreg MED Renewable Energy project, which aims to support rural and island communities in joining the clean energy transition, and its Ecosystem Transition Unit (ETU), a governance model which seeks to support territorial energy strategies that are integrated and coherent with other policies and action plans. The talk explained flagship ETU cases in Italy, Croatia, Spain, Greece, and Tunisia, the results achieved in recent months, and the potential for scaling up and replicating these initiatives as part of a region-wide transition to sustainable energy.

The Interreg Med Renewable Energy Project is one of the 8 MED Horizontal Projects of the Interreg Med Programme, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The capitalisation strategy of the project is set through the Ecosystemic Transition Unit (ETU initiative), a governance model for energy transition in rural and islands areas in the Mediterranean Region.

EMEA will coordinate the advocacy and policy mainstreaming actions, and will enhance knowledge transfer and synergies on climate change, energy transition, sustainability and green economy.
