Rym Ayadi, participated in the panel “Youth and Employment – Common Challenges and Opportunities in the Euro-Mediterranean Region”.
Professor Ayadi highlighted that unemployment in the Middle East and North Africa region is the highest in the world. Furthermore youth unemployment rate is higher than three times the adult one.
Among other recommendations Ayadi emphasized that labour market policies should not only concentrate on the supply side but they should be designed as a comprehensive package of measures involving supply and demand policies and looking for positive synergies among them.
Governments should increase resources devoted to more efficient ALMPs, and focus on vocational and education trainings, orientation, intermediation and career guidance.
